Because of drugs, I’m hearing voices in my head. Do you know of any herbs which might help?

Question:

My mind has been affected by drugs particularly LSD and music.  It has opened my mind up to telepathy, mind control, sleep control,  and the drug game.  I am not sure what to do right now.  After all these years I am realizing that if I do not stop telepathy, hearing voices in my mind, I will never achieve my full potential of growing with God.  I am thinking of trying an old medication that I took many years ago, of all the medications I have tried this is the only that seemed to help at all in blocking out telepathy.  There are major side effects, and I would not want to use it long term, so I do not know if it is worth it.

I read that the Bible talks about healing with herbs, do you know what herbs the God's word says to use?  I have reached out to many Christians around where I live and they see me as more of a game than someone who needs healing.

My first step to trying to heal is to stop the telepathy, then I would like to be around honestly caring and loving Christians.  Do you know of any Christians, who truly love God, living together in a community?  Thanks for your help.

Just yesterday, I was asking God why the Bible does not say anything about drugs, then I learned today about the Greek word pharmakeia being translated.

Thanks.

Answer:

Yes, I do know Christians and know of Christians around the world. If you would like help locating Christians in your area, just let me know.

The Bible does discuss drug use both in the Old and New Testament. In the Old Testament, there are references to "mixed wine." This refers to the practice of mixing herbs with wine to allow the alcohol in the wine to extract the active ingredients in the herbs. One of the effects of such drug use is mentioned in Proverbs, "Those who linger long at the wine, those who go in search of mixed wine. ... Your eyes will see strange things, and your heart will utter perverse things" (Proverbs 23:30,33). The reason for this effect is explained in more detail in "What about hearing voices in your head?"

Though I'm sure it seems like telepathy to you, telepathy doesn't exist. What you are perceiving are the inner communications of your own brain as one section talks with another section. Sadly your drug use has damaged the filters most people have to this internal chat and you are perceiving them as originating outside of yourself when they are actually from within yourself.

LSD is a particularly nasty drug as its effect on the mind continues even after you stop taking it. Ex-LSD users will experience unexpected, sudden flashbacks into hallucinations.

"The user may feel several different emotions at once or swing rapidly from one emotion to another. If taken in a large enough dose, the drug produces delusions and visual hallucinations. The user's sense of time and self changes. Sensations may seem to "cross over," giving the user the feeling of hearing colors and seeing sounds. These changes can be frightening and can cause panic." ["LSD Facts", The Partnership for a Drug Free America]

Since a large number of people turn to drugs in an attempt to self-medicate other problems, I can't comment on whether your current problems stem from drug usage or if they existed before or if the drug usage just made it worse.

Ideally one would like to avoid the use of any medication, but there are times when medication is needed just to be functional. See "Should a Christian use medicinal drugs that may affect the mind?" for more details. In regards to what herbs to use, the Bible only mentions their existence. It does not list them, nor does it have a detailed list of what herb is to be used in which situation. You will need to talk to someone trained in this area, such as a psychologist. Sadly, it is hard to find a good psychologist. Many seem more interested in treating symptoms than in finding a cure for a particular problem.
