Are the blood moon prophecies related to the moon causing things to happen?

Question:

I have a question about the blood moon. People are saying that a series of blood moons signify the coming of Christ and, therefore, will fulfill the biblical prophecy. Revelation 6:12 refers to it and Joel 2:30-31 refers to the blood moon and Christ's coming.

So I started thinking about it and I've been noticing things. The moon controls a lot, the tides, it influences the weather, etc. My friend lives in Kentucky and sent me videos of the flash flood they got after the blood moon. There were tornadoes last night in the midwest.

But not only the weather, but it also seems like since the blood moon 95% of people I've come in contact with are depressed or irritated or overly stressed. Their moods are just affected, including mine. The moon has an effect on moods, working in health care on nights with full moons all the patients would be crazier. I don't know if it has anything to do with the Bible or if it's just a coincidence because I'm overthinking it, but it's been driving me crazy for days.

Answer:

I prefer to approach this from a different direction. Jesus clearly stated that his return is not predictable. "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only" (Matthew 24:36). Read from there to the end of Matthew 25 and see that Jesus repeatedly emphasized this point. God is not going to give us advanced warning regarding the end of the world. "But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect" (Matthew 24:44-45). Therefore, anyone claiming to know when Jesus is returning is a false prophet.

In regards to Revelation 6:12 and Joel 2:30-31, the events they predicted have already been fulfilled. See: Can you shed light on the upcoming four blood moons prophecy? and Why do you say the blood moon prophecies are false when they are coming true?

In regards to recent events, the keywords are "I've been noticing things." Because of these supposed prophecies, you've begun to pay attention to things you usually skip over. It is springtime -- flash floods are common, tornadoes do begin as the weather warms up. But what about all the years these things were ignored? I remember a flood not long ago that affected Ohio to Illinois. It was huge! In 2011 the Missouri river flooded for three months straight! But these aren't signs of the end of the world, these are just the world in its normal variations of weather. Yet, when people start paying attention, suddenly they realize there are bad things all over the place. The bad things were always happening, but they were ignored before. When people started claiming the blood moons were signs of doom, people started looking for doomful things.

In regards to mood and the moon, that has been a popular belief for multiple centuries. The problem is that when someone actually conducts a study, it can't be found. See: "The Moon-Mood Connection". What I would conclude is that it is another one of those: "We expect it, so now we notice it" phenomena.
