Is gene editing moral?
Question:
What are your thoughts on gene editing? It is used for various purposes, and one of those is to remove parts of a gene or DNA that can cause illnesses such as Down Syndrome, among others.
Answer:
We use surgery today to correct birth defects, such as cleft palates or bone deformations. We use hormones to correct problems, such as insulin to help with diabetes. The corrections here are just more fundamental. I can't think of a reason to object to the medical use of gene editing to treat problems.
