Your site showed me how wrong I was. Yesterday I was baptized for the forgiveness of my sins

Question:

Good morning brother Hamilton,

I am a 23-year-old male. Recently I have been doing a lot of research and searching the Scriptures. I had stumbled upon scriptures, like Romans 9, and eventually ended up taking the stance of predestination and faith alone. It was not that I wanted to, but I did not know enough Scripture to even begin to refute it. Upon trying to combat the idea that God predestined some men to hell, I brought it to my friend, and he just overwhelmed me with verses, so I gave into it. The total depravity of men, original sin, faith only, and that baptism wasn't necessary for salvation.

A long-time friend of mine began reaching out to me and challenged those beliefs. He and I butted heads several times, but he slowly convinced me to look into things again. He gave me your website and I spent literally an entire night searching through it. I simply could not sleep. One of the biggest blessings I received from this site was the article addressing Romans 9. Previously, I had seen many debates on it, mainly from a man named James White. Every man he debated over the passage danced around the text. They were afraid of it and could not give a proper defense, but I was immediately amazed as I saw you go through Scripture and tear it down line by line, verse by verse! A proper exegesis of the text with supporting Scripture to back it up. Once it was clear to me what Romans 9 didn't say, I began digging through other articles and other erroneous teachings came crashing down.

Yesterday morning I was baptized for the forgiveness of my sins. I thank you for being a light on my wall, and I hope to continue to use your website as a tool throughout this journey.

Answer:

Wow! I'm so glad that you were willing to dig for yourself through the Scriptures and analyze people's points. It reminds me of those in Berea, "Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so" (Acts 17:11). Welcome to the brotherhood of Christ!
