You Have Brought Trouble

by Zeke Flores

In Genesis 34:30, Jacob says to Simeon and Levi, "You have brought trouble on me."

This chapter is messy, painful, and morally complex. But it highlights a crucial truth: human anger, even when justified, cannot produce God’s righteousness. Simeon and Levi respond to Dinah’s violation with vengeance. Their outrage is understandable, but their actions only escalate the sin rather than heal it.

Scripture consistently teaches that justice belongs to God. When we take it into our own hands, we often create more destruction. Jacob’s sons acted out of fury, not faith. They defended honor but ignored holiness.

This chapter reminds us that God’s people are called to pursue justice in God’s way, with wisdom, restraint, and righteousness.

If you’re carrying anger over something deeply wrong, don’t let it push you into actions that multiply the damage. Bring your pain to God. Let Him shape your response. His justice is perfect. Ours isn’t.
