Why Is Your God the One?

by Terry Wane Benton

Many gods have been claimed and worshipped all over the world. Why is your God the One?

Isaiah gives good reasons to dismiss all the gods invented by human desire and imagination and settle on one true and living God. Take a look at Isaiah’s God:

Isaiah said there is none like Him in greatness. He ridicules all the gods that men have formed with their own hands and craftsmanship, and how ridiculous it is to make something and then fall down before it (Isaiah 40). None of these made us or the universe.

Secondly, Isaiah said none of these gods had uttered prophecy, and it came to pass. Only One God has shown prophetic power to reveal the future (Isaiah 44). The true God has spoken of cities and nations that would fall, some not ever being rebuilt, and some being rebuilt. How could this happen exactly as prophesied? Babylon would fall and never be rebuilt, but Jerusalem would fall and after 70 years be rebuilt. A child would be born and be called “Mighty God” (Isaiah 9:6). How could this happen? Yet it did in Jesus.

Thirdly, Isaiah said that a virgin would bring forth a son and be known as “God with us” (Immanuel). This would be a sign from God, and this Child would become known as the “Prince of peace” (Isaiah 7:14; 9:6f). Thus, the true God manifested Himself in a human. Who was this? It was Jesus Christ of Nazareth who did such amazing signs that made people know He was “Mighty God.” But Isaiah also said that there would be an amazing sacrifice for our sins (Isaiah 53), that satisfies justice and mercy on our behalf. What God manifests sacrificial love like this?

That is my God! There is nothing like Him. He wanted no human devised image to represent Him because nothing is like Him! None other has offered prophecies like Him! None have manifested themselves like Him! All this was to demonstrate His love for me. Thus, none have loved me like Him! Isaiah’s God was the true one, and all else was the invention of human desire and imagination! Only One has revealed Himself like Jesus, so to know Jesus is to know the Father! Jesus made the claims and revealed all the evidence we need to know that God has demonstrated Himself as the true and living God!
