Why do I feel like God never answers our prayers?

Question:

This is probably a stupid question, but anyway I will proceed. Sometimes I feel like God never answers our prayers; thus, why do we pray? How do we know if God answers our prayers? Are there signs that I should be looking for? I just don't understand why we pray for things to get better if we don't know if things are going to get better or not.

Thank you.

Answer:

Perhaps it is a matter of what you notice because I see evidence of God's involvement in my life quite often and especially in the answering of prayers. Let me recommend a lesson by a friend of mine, Exceedingly Abundantly, about how God answered his prayers concerning his daughter's cancer. But a big part of the answer is faith that God is concerned about His children and cares for them. "Now suppose one of you fathers is asked by his son for a fish; he will not give him a snake instead of a fish, will he? Or if he is asked for an egg, he will not give him a scorpion, will he? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?" (Luke 11:11-13).
