Why did my mother have such a strange dream?

Question:

I hear you're from a church. Can you tell me any reason why my mom dreamed last night that she was somewhere in a mountain and all of a sudden she heard a voice saying look up in the sky and she looked up and saw a crack in the sky and in the crack there was blood and meat. She could hear people crying, praying, and screaming, “we have to change,” and in the sky, there were images of angels, saints, the crucifixion, and fishes. They would appear and then vanish. Is there an explanation for this abnormal dream?

Answer:

Dreams are the way the brain reorganizes experiences and thoughts of the day so that they can be quickly retrieved later. Sometimes the associations can be odd. I'm sure you've experienced times when someone said something or you saw something and it reminded you of something else that was completely unrelated. You see those strange connections in your dreams.

People want miracles so badly that they want to attach meaning to all their dreams. There have been times God talked to men through dreams -- not on a regular basis but as rare and important events. Yet, the Bible says, "God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds" (Hebrews 1:1-2). God, not man, chooses how He will communicate His will. In this age, God stated that He talks to us through Jesus and Jesus talks to us through his word. "Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust" (II Peter 1:2-4). Communication to individuals through dreams are a thing of the past.

What were your mother's dreams? From your description, I would guess that your mother is Roman Catholic because the images are those which are significant to a Catholic. What she is mixing with Catholicism I wouldn't begin to guess. But is it from God? No. Even in the past, there were warnings: "I have heard what the prophets have said who prophesy lies in My name, saying, 'I have dreamed, I have dreamed!' How long will this be in the heart of the prophets who prophesy lies? Indeed they are prophets of the deceit of their own heart" (Jeremiah 23:25-26). It is far too easy for a person to deceive themselves into thinking that what enters their head must be what God wants.
