What lexicon would you recommend?

Question:

I'm really getting into Greek word-studies now. I was wondering what lexicon you'd recommend. I once read a review that claimed Thayer's is outdated, which is what I've been using through the Blue Letter Bible. Have new findings since its writing been significant enough to use a newer lexicon? If so, which would you recommend?

Answer:

For a general "layman's" lexicon, Vine's Expository Dictionary of Biblical Words is quite good. My all-around favorite is The Complete Biblical Library. This one is no longer being printed, but it is available on CD. It is expensive, but if you've seen printed copies of it you know why. The printed set takes up about six feet of shelf space. Something quite a bit cheaper, but a bit harder to use is A Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament and Other Early Christian Literature by Walter Bauers and edited by Fredrick Danker.
