What is the difference between being saved and delivered?

Question:

What is the difference between being saved (rededicated) and delivered?

Answer:

In the Scriptures there is little difference between being saved and being delivered; though being saved generally focuses on the person being rescued and being delivered focuses on the person doing the rescue. The term "rededicated" is not found in the Bible.

The word "delivered" generally translates the Greek word rhoumai, which means to rescue. "He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins" (Colossians 1:13-14).

The word "saved" generally translates the Greek word sozo, which means to make safe, to deliver, or to protect. "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation" (Romans 5:8-11).
