What is Isaiah 26:12 talking about?

Question:

What's your Bible's translation of Isaiah 26:12? My cousin and I have two different translations and we don't know which is right. Does it talk about good works or blessings?

Answer:

"LORD, You will establish peace for us, for You have also done all our works in us" (Isaiah 26:12 NKJV).

"LORD, You will establish peace for us, since You have also performed for us all our works" (Isaiah 26:12 NASB95).

"LORD, you establish peace for us; all that we have accomplished you have done for us" (Isaiah 26:12 NIV).

"Lord, you will give us peace: for all our works are the outcome of your purpose" (Isaiah 26:12 BBE).

I included several versions so you can see the range of translations given. The basic idea is that everything we do are the good things God planned out for us. So the blessings we enjoy come as a result of our fulfilling God's purpose. Or seen in another way, the blessings we enjoy come as a result of God using us to accomplish His purpose.

The point is that blessings, peace, prosperity are not because we are so great that we made them happen. We enjoy them because of God's efforts. We're just the tools God uses to bring them about.
