What caused the darkness at Jesus’ death and the fire that destroyed Sodom?

Question:

Was the darkness that filled the whole world at about the hour Jesus died from a total eclipse? Was the fire that destroyed Sodom from a meteor or some space matter?

Answer:

"Now from the sixth hour until the ninth hour there was darkness over all the land" (Matthew 27:45).

Since the darkness lasted three hours, it cannot be explained by a solar eclipse.

"Then the LORD rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah, from the LORD out of the heavens" (Genesis 19:24).

We are only told the results. We weren't informed how God chose to accomplish these results.
