What are the seven mansions?

Question:

In my Father's house are many mansions. What are the seven mansions? Thank you!

Answer:

So how did you leap from "many mansions" to "seven mansions?"

"In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also" (John 14:2-3).

The word selection in the King James and New King James versions is unfortunate because the word "mansion" carries connotations not found in the Greek wording of this passage. The Greek word is mone, which means a place to stay or a residence.

Jesus is discussing with his disciples the fact that he was leaving them. They wanted to go with him, but Jesus told them they would have to stay for a while. They would be able to join him later. In this verse, he is assuring them that there would always be room for them. There was no rush to get there before the last room was taken.
