Wearing Yourself Out
by Zeke Flores
"You will surely wear out, both yourself and these people who are with you, for the task is too heavy for you; you cannot do it alone" (Exodus 18:18).
Jethro gives Moses a reality check. Moses is trying to handle everything himself.
Every problem.
Every dispute.
Every responsibility.
And Jethro basically says, “This is not sustainable.”
A lot of us live like Moses. We take on too much. We assume everything depends on us. We push ourselves until we’re exhausted and then wonder why we feel overwhelmed. Jethro’s advice is simple: share the load. Delegate. Let others help. You’re not meant to carry everything.
This isn’t just about workload; it’s about humility. It takes humility to admit you can’t do it all, it takes trust to let others step in, and it takes wisdom to recognize your limits.
If you’re stretched thin, maybe God is reminding you to lighten the load, not by quitting your responsibility, but by letting others share it. You don’t have to be the hero, you just have to be faithful.
