Unintentional Sin

by Zeke Flores

"If anyone of the common people sins unintentionally ... then he shall bring for his offering a goat, a female without defect, for his sin which he has committed" (Leviticus 4:27-28).

Leviticus 4 deals with unintentional sin. Not rebellion, not defiance, just the stuff we do without thinking. The careless words. The selfish reactions. The moments we didn’t realize we were drifting. God made a whole category of sacrifice for that. Why? Because even unintentional sin affects our relationship with Him.

But notice something important: God didn’t shame the people. He simply made a way for them to come back. He expected honesty, not perfection. He wanted His people to stay close, not pretend they never messed up.

We still need that reminder. When we realize we’ve hurt someone, ignored God’s voice, or slipped into a bad attitude, the goal isn’t to hide it. The goal is to bring it to God. He already knows, and He’s already made a way for restoration.

Unintentional sin doesn’t make you a failure; it makes you human. What matters is what you do next. Bring it to God, let Him clean it up, let Him restore your peace.
