Few engaged in activities purely for entertainment. Sports served practical purposes in gathering food or protection. However, some of these activities were done for competition and the winning of a prize.
- 1 Corinthians 9:25 "And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown."
- 2 Timothy 2:5 "And also if anyone competes in athletics, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules."

Running a Race
- Acts 20:24 "But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God."
- 1 Corinthians 9:24-26 "Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it.
