Minds “Stayed”

by Terry Wane Benton

We want the peace of God, but the promise is for him "whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts You" (Isaiah 26:3).

When peace is missing, we have to check two things:

  1. Is your mind "stayed" on God? and
  2. Are you trusting God?

When the storms rage around us, it is easy to get the mind on the storm and be distracted from a steady focus on God's power, care, and majesty. It is hard to stay focused.

Distractions also take our focus away from the invisible to the visible. Check your belief! Do you believe God "cares for you" (I Peter 5:7)? Do you believe His will is far better for you in the long run than your present desires? In other words, what I want right now is not necessarily best because I cannot see what God sees. Am I willing to trust His greater wisdom over my present desire?

Do I trust that everything will work out because God is good and is working everything for my ultimate good? See? When we stay our minds and trust God's greater goodness and wisdom, we relax our fears and anxiety, putting it all in His hands and believing things will work out more than fine.

Peace of mind is a natural outgrowth of staying the mind and putting greater trust in He who does all things well! Remember to steady the mind and heart and trust the gracious Almighty One! Steady, calming trust! Cast your cares upon Him! He cares for you! Together with trust in Him, the two of you have this!
