Is worship acceptable if the one leading it is a hidden sinner?

Question:

Dear sir,

I hope this email finds you well.

In reference to Romans 6:1-2 and I Timothy 2:8: If someone is leading any of the acts of worship and, unknown to the church, the person is in sin but continues to lead the service, does it hinder the church in any way?

Do your sins hinder the blessings of a brother or sister who is of pure heart?

May the Almighty God be with you in all your endeavors.

Best regards to you, sir.

Answer:

Your personal sins put up a barrier between you and God (Isaiah 59:1-2). For example, a husband who doesn't treat his wife well will find his prayers hindered (I Peter 3:7).

In a congregation, you don't know everything that is happening in a brother's life. You are not held responsible for your brother's hidden sins. When you know your brother is in sin, then you have an obligation to help him get out of his sin. This is why the Corinthians were scolded. There was a fornicator in their midst, and they knew it, yet did nothing about it (I Corinthians 5).

Response:

Thank you for the clarification.

May God bless you more.
