Is it proper to bless God’s high and holy name?

Question:

I had used the phrase "We bless your high and holy name." I realize the word bless means basically to make happy. Is it scriptural to pray that phrase?  I figure the elders would have corrected me if it wasn't, but all men are imperfect.  Just wanted to know so if I needed to, I could correct that as well.

Answer:

"And the Levites, Jeshua, Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabniah, Sherebiah, Hodijah, Shebaniah, and Pethahiah, said: "Stand up and bless the LORD your God Forever and ever! 'Blessed be Your glorious name, which is exalted above all blessing and praise!'"" (Nehemiah 9:5).

"And he said: "Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked shall I return there. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD"" (Job 1:9).

"Thus I will bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name" (Psalms 63:4).

"His name shall endure forever; His name shall continue as long as the sun. And men shall be blessed in Him; all nations shall call Him blessed. Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, who only does wondrous things! And blessed be His glorious name forever! And let the whole earth be filled with His glory. Amen and Amen" (Psalms 72:17-19).

"Sing to the LORD, bless His name; proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day. Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all peoples. For the LORD is great and greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods" (Psalms 96:3-4).

"Bless the LORD, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases" (Psalms 103:1-3).

"Blessed be the name of the LORD from this time forth and forevermore! From the rising of the sun to its going down the LORD'S name is to be praised. The LORD is high above all nations, His glory above the heavens. Who is like the LORD our God, Who dwells on high" (Psalms 113:2-5).
