I Protest
by Terry Wane Benton
I protest sin. It corrupts hearts and destroys love and peace. It breaks our relationship with God and makes people lawless. It blinds people to their own faults and makes them super critical of others. Sin corrupts hearts so that they hate people without knowing them based upon external features that are just matters of perspective or prejudice.
- I protest the rioting and hate based on sin in the heart.
- I protest the sin of judging all blacks or whites by the attitudes and actions of a few.
- I protest judging all policemen by the actions of a few.
- I protest misguided anger that expresses itself by hurting others and destroying others’ property.
- I protest the mob spirit that nailed Jesus to the cross, yet seen over and over again in our own time.
- I protest the ignorance that once guided me, which is why I turned around and pursued a better direction.
- I protest blaming others for my failures.
- I protest the pride that keeps me from admitting that I could and should strive to be better, kinder, more loving, more like Jesus.
There are many things to protest, but these are more important matters than most of the things people are caught up in. If people started on these matters, the other things would fade into nonexistence. Start with protesting sin in your own heart!
