I don’t think my walk with God is going well

Question:

Hi,

I'm worried about my walk with God, and I don't think it's going well. I hardly read my Bible and I always forget to pray. When I do pray I'm worried God is not listening. I know He is, but I can't shake this feeling. My question is: how can I make my walk with God better and how do I know God is watching over me? Also, how do I know if God listens to me?

Answer:

"Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He who says, "I know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked" (I John 2:3-6).

Worry solves no problems. Feelings are a useless guide. It comes down to faith. Do you trust that God keeps His word? "So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God" (Romans 10:17). But reading the Bible won't stay with you unless you make it a part of your life. "Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does" (James 1:21-25).

Thus, it comes down to: Are you doing what you ought to do as a Christian?

Thank you for the answer. I think I understand.
