God’s Care
How often have we wondered if God really cares for us, even those of us who are Christians? We may be in situations where we think that God has forgotten us, or even worse, that He has abandoned us. Countless Christians, through the years, have wondered this very thing. That being the case, let's consider some of the encouraging statements God provides for us in His word. In Matthew 10:29-31 we read this: "Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows."
Can we possibly think that we are not valuable to God when we learn that He knows such a seemingly insignificant fact as the number of hairs on our heads? Only a God who deeply loves us and cares for us would know such a thing. The only conclusion we can reasonably come to is that each of God's children is valuable to Him.
The simple statement recorded in Luke 19:10 is so telling: "For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost." Can we possibly imagine that God would show concern and care like this for people He had no interest in? Would John 3:16 make any sense if God didn't care for us? Those familiar words read: "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life." This could only be said in regard to people that God has a special affection. In II Peter 3:9 we learn that God is "… not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance." God, because of how He cares for mankind, is not pleased to see anyone lost for all eternity.
Think also about the passage we have in I Peter 2:9-10: "But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; for you once were not a people, but now you are the people of God; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy." Understand that these verses were addressed to Christians, those who have been immersed for the forgiveness of their sins. And notice how Christians are described: a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own possession. In addition, Christians are identified as the people of God. That means you if you are a Christian; that is how God recognizes you.
Finally, notice that "God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8). While we were sinners, while we were living as God's enemies, Christ died for us. Not because we were good or deserving, but because the heavenly Father loved us to such an extent. Never forget how much God loves you, how valuable you are to Him, how much He cares for you, and how much He wants you to enjoy a heavenly home with Him throughout all eternity. You are special in His sight!
