Don’t Be a Peninnah
by Terry Wane Benton
Peninnah provoked Hannah severely to “make her miserable" (1 Sam.1:6). If you don’t have anything better in life to do than to make someone miserable, you have made yourself pretty worthless. The story shows a serious flaw in the arrangement of polygamy, but it also shows a flaw in personal character. Loving your neighbor as yourself and the golden rule are surely not observed when you make it your aim to bully or otherwise make someone miserable.
