Evidence for the Faith

by David Gibson

What evidence is there for believing: 1) God exists, 2) Jesus is His Son, and 3) the Bible is His word?

God Exists

“... His invisible attributes ... have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse” (Romans 1:20).

Jesus Is His Son

The apostles witnessed the risen Christ and maintained their testimony despite severe persecution (Acts 4:16-20; 5:27-32, 40-42; 26:9-23).

The Bible Is His Word

Old Testament prophets predicted Jesus’ birth, death, and resurrection centuries beforehand (Luke 24:25-27, 44-47; I Peter 1:10-12; II Peter 1:20-21).

No Legend or Myth

Much more evidence could be cited. In Peter’s words, “For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty” (II Peter 1:16 KJV; see Acts 2:24-32; 3:20-24; 10:38-41).

Peter believed the faith is defensible.

And he was right.
