Frustrated with God
by Zeke Flores
"Then Moses returned to Yahweh and said, 'O Yahweh, why have You brought harm to this people? Why did You ever send me? Ever since I came to Pharaoh to speak in Your name, he has done harm to this people, and You have not rescued Your people at all'" (Exodus 5:22-23).
Moses does something we’re often afraid to do: he tells God exactly how frustrated he is. He doesn’t sugarcoat it. He doesn’t pretend everything is fine. He brings the raw, honest version of himself to God. And God doesn’t rebuke him for it.
Sometimes obedience makes things look worse before they get better. Moses did exactly what God told him to do, and the situation looked like it was falling apart. That’s a tough place to be. It’s easy to assume you misheard God or that He’s not paying attention. But this moment shows that confusion and faith can exist in the same heart. God can handle your questions. He can handle your disappointment. What He wants is your honesty.
If you’re in a circumstance where obedience hasn’t produced the results you expected, don’t hide your frustration from God. Bring it to Him. He already knows. And like Moses, you may discover that God is working on a timeline bigger than what you can see right now.
