When They Heard This

by Tery Wane Benton

I am amazed that the 12 men in Ephesus did not argue with Paul about baptism in the name of the Lord. “When they heard this” they were baptized (Acts 19:5). That is faith. If they had said it wasn’t necessary because they were baptized under John the Baptist, it would have shown a lack of faith in the name of Jesus.

God is looking for people of faith who will believe and obey His word without hesitation and doubt. Speak, Lord; your servant listens! The words Paul spoke were not mysterious and hard to understand. The Ephesians were not told to say a prayer, or they would have faith to do it. They were not told to kneel before Paul at an altar, or they would have done it. They were told to be baptized in the name of the Lord. By faith, when they heard this, they did it. That is when the blood of Christ washed their sins away (Acts 2:38; 22:16; Colossians 2:12). They had faith in the word of God and in the operation of God.
