Why do we see the spirits of the dead?

Question:

My wife lost her mom. However, she claimed her mom visited us almost every day before she was finally buried. Sometimes she would say: "She's standing at the door", but I couldn't see anything.

Why do we see the spirit of the dead?

Answer:

Keep in mind that truth is established by the testimony of two or more independent witnesses. "Every fact is to be confirmed by the testimony of two or three witnesses" (II Corinthians 13:1).

People tend to see what they strongly want to see. Your wife was in grief and she badly wanted to see her mother again. It doesn't mean that her mother was actually there, it only demonstrates that your wife said she was there.

The Bible states: "But man dies and lies prostrate. Man expires, and where is he? As water evaporates from the sea, and a river becomes parched and dried up, so man lies down and does not rise. Until the heavens are no longer, he will not awake nor be aroused out of his sleep" (Job 14:10-12). Nor are the dead involved in the affairs of the living. "For the living know that they will die; but the dead know nothing, and they have no more reward, For the memory of them is forgotten. Also their love, their hatred, and their envy have now perished; nevermore will they have a share In anything done under the sun" (Ecclesiastes 9:5-6).

Therefore, the logical conclusion is that your wife was hallucinating.
