Introduction

The Lord has blessed me with many opportunities to discuss marriage with couples prior to their commitment to each other. Each study has brought up interesting topics that have caused me to search God’s word for answers. I suspect that this will continue as the years progress. While I prefer to teach this material face-to-face, so that I can address the unique questions and concerns of each couple, I was faced with the need to teach some via correspondence. As a result, I expanded my notes into a small book to reach a larger audience.

As hard as I have worked on this book, I am sure that it will not be able to answer all of your questions. Every couple whom I studied with has presented a wide variety of questions. Some of those questions did not come to the surface until some chance comment led to a new thought. I would like to encourage you to have a pad of paper and a pencil by your side as you read this material. Jot down all the questions you have as they occur to you. As you progress through the book, you may find that I have an answer to some of your questions. If you find that I have not addressed your particular concerns, write to me for more information. The question you ask may help another couple in a future version of this book. As you will soon see, I am willing to discuss all manner of questions, even embarrassing personal questions.

If you have the time and are so motivated, I will be happy to talk to you face-to-face. There is no substitute for a heart-to-heart talk, especially when you preparing to make a lifelong commitment to someone else.

It is my prayer that this effort will prepare you and your future spouse for a rich and fulfilling journey through this vale of tears. May the Lord bless each of you.

Your humble servant,

Jeffrey W. Hamilton
