Judgment on the Mountains of Israel

Text: Ezekiel 6

 

I.         Ezekiel is to face the mountains of Israel to prophesy against them - Ezekiel 6:1-7

            A.        It is on the mountains that idols were often worshiped.

            B.        Similar prophesy - Micah 6:1-2

            C.        God will destroy the idols and kill the worshipers in front of their idols.

                        1.         As prophesied - Leviticus 26:30

II.        A small number will not be destroyed - Ezekiel 6:8-10

            A.        Israel could have been like Sodom and Gomorrah - Isaiah 1:9

            B.        These will be lead away captive

                        1.         As prophesied - Leviticus 26:39

            C.        The purpose of the destruction is so that those left would remember - Zechariah 10:9; 13:8-9

                        1.         As promised - Deuteronomy 30:1-8

                        2.         Goal is to bring about repentance - Leviticus 26:40-45

            D.        God compares them to adulterous spouses who hurt the one remaining faithful to the marriage.

            E.        God can be grieved by the wicked actions of men

III.       Ezekiel is to clap his hands and stomp his feet - Ezekiel 6:11-14

            A.        He is illustrating God stomping out and destroying the wicked

            B.        The judgment cannot be escaped

            C.        Those who are distant will die of a plague

            D.        Those who are close will die in war

            E.        Those who escape war will die from famine

            F.        The slain will be among the idols. The false gods cannot prevent or help - Jeremiah 8:1-2

            G.        The destruction will be so complete that the land will be desolate
