Out with the Old and In with the New

The Years of Silence

After Israel returned to Judah, God announced through the prophets that He had nothing more to say (Amos 8:11-12). There were four hundred years of silence between the Old and New Testaments.

The Life of Jesus

The silence ended with the coming of John, the Baptizer, who announced the Anointed One (the Messiah or the Christ) would soon arrive. The life of the Christ was so important that God gave us four different records. The collection of books is known as the Gospels. The word Gospel means “good news.” Jesus’ purpose in coming was to bring in salvation for mankind and to establish a church for those saved.

The Early Church

After Jesus died and was resurrected, his church was established. The book of Acts records the church's early history, focusing on to major preachers of the gospel: Peter and Paul.

Letters to Christians

The remainder of the New Testament is a set of letters written by various inspired men to Christians, explaining to them how to live a life pleasing to the Christ.
