          Parable: A story used to illustrate a doctrine. Example: Matthew 13






 

          Allegory: A past event or story used to illustrate deeper meanings than what the surface story appears to give. Example: II Samuel 12:1-15







 

          Type: From the idea of stamping where the die is the type and the impression left is the antitype. A past person or object is compared and contrasted to a later person or object. Example: Romans 5:14, I Corinthians 15:45







 

          Symbol: A picture or object that represents another object. Example: Revelation 1:20, Ephesians 5:26, John 7:37-39
