{"id":9311,"date":"2007-09-09T16:47:48","date_gmt":"2007-09-09T21:47:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.lavistachurchofchrist.org\/cms\/?p=9311"},"modified":"2019-09-09T16:49:19","modified_gmt":"2019-09-09T21:49:19","slug":"once-for-all","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lavistachurchofchrist.org\/cms\/once-for-all\/","title":{"rendered":"Once for All"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\tby Billy Norris<br \/>\nvia Gospel Guide, Vol. 27, No. 12, December 1995\n<blockquote>&#8220;<em>Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints&#8230;<\/em>&#8221; (Jude<br \/>\n3).<\/blockquote>\n<p>The original Greek word\u00a0<em>hapax\u00a0<\/em>translated &#8220;once for all&#8221; means that it is &#8220;of perpetual validity not requiring repetition&#8221; (Vine, pg. 819). \u00a0The faith delivered to the saints is of such quality that it is complete (&#8220;perfect.&#8221;\u00a0James 1:25) and will not tolerate repetition or alteration. \u00a0This means that any &#8220;revelations&#8221; since the faith was given once for all have not come from God but from the inventive minds of men. \u00a0It further means that those who claim the revelations and those who believe them are condemned. \u00a0The warning is clearly given, &#8220;<em>Whoever transgresses (goes ahead) and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. \u00a0He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son<\/em>&#8221; (II John 9).<\/p>\n<p>We must recognize and respect the significance of this word translated &#8220;once for all.&#8221; \u00a0Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. \u00a0(Hebrews 9:28). \u00a0His sacrifice was of such quality as never to need repetition.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Billy Norris via Gospel Guide, Vol. 27, No. 12, December 1995 &#8220;Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints&#8230;&#8221; (Jude 3).
