The very nature of light is to illuminate, that is, to reveal something. We use it to help us do things such as writing a letter or working in the garden. Whenever I work under the hood of my car, I use a light suspended from a cord above me to illuminate the area so I can see what I’m doing, even if sometimes I don’t know what I’m doing!<\/p>\n
Light is something that, to most of us, should be a reassuring thing. It guides us and gives us comfort. I remember when I would get called out to work at night and return home very late. My wife would leave the porch light on for me so I could see to get my key in the door lock. As I would turn the corner onto our street, it was always a welcome sight to see the glowing porch light in the darkness. I was almost home.<\/p>\n
In the same way, God’s word is a light that illumines the way home for us. The home we seek is the one that He has prepared for us in heaven, and His word, which is absolute truth, helps us to see the way and enables us to get there.<\/p>\n
Light offers the illumination by which we can make our way. A flashlight in the dark woods, a headlight on a dark highway, a porch light at home, and God’s word in a dark world.<\/p>\n
“And we have something more sure, the prophetic word, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts<\/em>” (II Peter 1:19).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
