I have heard this question asked before in other people’s conversations and didn’t get a satisfactory answer. So, please help my girlfriend and me to understand, so we may teach others.

Answer:

Jesus stated, “Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female’?” (Matthew 19:4). The theory of evolution teaches that everything in the world gradually evolved into its present state, but the Bible states that man and woman were created and that creation took place at the beginning. Going to the book of beginnings, which is what Genesis means, we find that God created man and woman on the sixth day of creation (Genesis 1:26-31).

The time of the creation is a bit more difficult to pinpoint. There hasn’t been a universal calendar across the history of mankind. Most events were dated relative to other events. And there is a tendency to round dates to the nearest year. Such doesn’t make much difference in a lifetime, but rounding can become significant when you add up roughly 6,000 years of history. Using the numbers recorded in the Bible, most scholars come up with an estimated age of the earth that is somewhere around 6,000 years. That is nowhere near the age people use for evolution, but then people who believe the Bible don’t need millions of years to make their belief feasible, like the evolutionists who must have very long periods of time to cover up the impossibility of random events causing ordered results.

The Bible was written over a span of about 1,500 years. The earliest book is the Book of Job, written around the time of Abraham. Moses wrote the first five books of the Old Testament, though the book of Genesis appears to have been edited by Moses based on earlier records (see Genesis for more details). The last book to be written is Revelation by the apostle John. It is generally dated at A.D. 92 (see Revelation for more details). Over the years, over 40 authors were involved in the writing of the Bible, but in another sense, the Bible was written by one author: God. “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work” (II Timothy 3:16-17). God inspired various men to write down the words of God. “Knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as the Holy Spirit moved them” (II Peter 1:20-21). This single authorship by God explains the amazing consistency of the message found in the Bible despite the involvement of so many people and the lengthy time in which it was written.

Question: My girlfriend and I were discussing things in the Bible, and we were wondering when did Adam and Eve come into existence, and when did the Bible come into existence?
