You care for one another, look out for each other, and want to see each other do good and succeed. You do not like to see others hurt or make fun of them. When a family starts out, it has visions of good things to come, but much too soon, the family falls apart. The reason this happens is that a family without God will crumble. It cannot stand because its foundation is not built on the rock, and that rock is Jesus Christ. The rain descends and the floods come, and the winds blow, and it will fall, for it was not built on the rock.

A godly family consists of a husband and a wife. The husband loves his wife as Christ loved the church and gave his life for it. The wife loves and respects her husband, who is the head of the family. The children obey their parents in the Lord, for this is right. They honor their father and mother, which is the first commandment with promise. The father does not provoke his children to wrath but brings them up in the training and admonition of the Lord. The mother does her children good, not evil, all her days. She rises while it is still night and provides food for her household. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and her tongue is the law of kindness. Her children rise up and call her blessed.

The godly family sees things that the world doesn’t see. The godly family sees that God is the creator and holds the universe in the palm of His hand. They understand that they are nothing without Him. They understand that nothing can exist without him, and that He is in total control of everything. They understand that the word of God is their ruler and standard by which they conduct their life. They understand that they need to search the scriptures daily to see that what they are doing is right. They understand they need to pray together to God daily.

The godly family makes it their aim to know God. To know God means to know His love. To know love means to embody its qualities in your daily life. Developing patience by showing it to others. Getting to know the truth by studying the word of God and understanding what it is saying and telling others. Being truthful with others and not lying. Learning compassion by seeing what others need and lending them a helping hand. Knowing unselfishness by seeking not only your own interest but the interest of others. Learning humility by not exalting yourself or being boastful. Learning forgiveness by not keeping score with others and taking into account a wrong suffered. Learning endurance by not giving up or quitting on your pursuit for the prize of the upward call of heaven. Learning faith by believing that God is the rewarder of all who seek His kingdom first. All of these qualities are what make a godly family.

The godly family is the wisdom of God at work. God has set it up in such a way that it will grow the love of God in a person who will glorify God. The world attempts to devise its own methods for making people good and righteous, which ultimately fail, and rejects the wisdom of God because it is considered old and outdated. The world wants the benefits of the godly family but doesn’t want to follow the rules to have those benefits. They cannot figure out why it doesn’t work. The world says surely there is another way to have this kind of family without submitting to the word of God. Even in this modern age, families that follow the word of God are successful.

The godly family is a light that shines in this world and cannot be hidden. We all see it and cannot deny that it is good. The godly family does no harm to its neighbor and exalts a nation. The Godly family will stand the test of time because God stands the test of time. It endures all things. It never fails because love never fails.

The godly family and the joy it will bring are what we are all after and what we desire and long for in this world. Nobody wants division, strife, dissensions, hatred, contentions, and jealousy in their family. Making a choice to have a Godly family and having the determination to achieve it is what this world will always need. There will never be a time when this is not needed. It will always be good and bring good to this world. May we all strive to have a godly family that is righteous and good, making the world a better place.

by Marc Hyde When you think of family, you think of being close, doing things together, and looking out for one another.
