{"id":88934,"date":"2025-07-26T11:12:22","date_gmt":"2025-07-26T16:12:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.lavistachurchofchrist.org\/cms\/?p=88934"},"modified":"2025-07-26T11:12:22","modified_gmt":"2025-07-26T16:12:22","slug":"strike-the-rock","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lavistachurchofchrist.org\/cms\/strike-the-rock\/","title":{"rendered":"Strike the Rock?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\t<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lavistachurchofchrist.org\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/tissot-moses-strikes-the-rock-491ed5-small-229x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"229\" height=\"300\" \/>The children of Israel were desperate for water and were crying out to Moses, &#8220;<em>Why have you brought us out here to die of thirst?<\/em>&#8221; God told Moses to take his rod and &#8220;<em>strike the rock,<\/em>&#8221; and &#8220;<em>water will come out of it, that the people may drink<\/em>&#8221; (Exodus 17:3-6). Did God do this just to demonstrate the extraordinary power He can wield? Or perhaps He wanted to implant a visual of His larger plan in Christ again? It was at a place called Massah and Meribah that the Israelites tested the Lord and asked, &#8220;<em>Is the Lord among us or not?<\/em>&#8221; The miracle of striking the rock and water coming out did show that the Lord was indeed among them, but it did more than that. It pointed to the time of Jesus&#8217; trial. The <em>Rock<\/em> was smitten in the trial and crucifixion of Jesus, and from this <em>Rock<\/em> we drink to refresh our souls. There were those taunting Jesus with similar tests of &#8220;is the Lord with Him or not?&#8221; But God was indeed with Him. God was providing a resource in the striking of the Rock (Jesus).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;<em>Jesus answered and said to her, &#8216;If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, &#8216;Give Me a drink,&#8217; you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water&#8217;<\/em>&#8221; (John 4:10 NKJV).<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>For My flesh is food indeed, and My blood is drink indeed. He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him<\/em>&#8221; (John 6:55-57 NKJV).<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, &#8216;If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. 38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water'&#8221; (John 7:37-39 NKJV).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Starving souls need to drink from this Rock or they will die. Drinking from the events of the cross, our soul and spirit are rejuvenated, and our question, &#8220;Is the Lord with us or not?&#8221; becomes answered!<\/p>\n<p>Are you drinking in the soul refreshment of the Rock?
