We prepare for days of extreme temptation or the hours when our faith will be tested the most. We try to be ready for the tough questions and harsh insults that may come with being a Christian. These preparations are good and right.

But we often live lives where most days are common and ordinary. Days full of work and meetings and meal prep and housework. Days occupied with the mundane and the humdrum. In other words, a life full of Thursdays. Even those who lived the most exciting lives we read about in the Bible still had huge swaths of their lives that were the most ordinary days.

We absolutely need to be faithful in days of adversity and times of turmoil. We must have an answer for anyone who asks for the reason for the hope that is in us. But we also must be faithful in the tedium. Often, we falter and fail not because of adversity but because of its absence. We grow weak, then dull, and fall away because life is comfortable. Let us strive to be patient for the coming of the Lord and to be faithful on all days-even on the ordinary and boring Thursdays.

by Chadwick Brewer “Be patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord.
