Grace can only come from one with the power and authority to grant it. Some may pit emphasis on God’s authority over against emphasis on grace, but they go hand in hand. The only way that grace can mean anything to us is that it has been offered by the only One who has the power to forgive our sins and tell us what pleases Him. This is the prerogative of our King to whom we owe complete allegiance. If I am to be thankful for God’s grace, I am also to be thankful for God’s authority by which grace is offered.
