The Greek word for “proper clothing” is kosmious<\/i>, which means orderly, well-arranged, seemly, or modest. In other words, it refers to clothing that is neat and appropriate for the occasion. The Greek word translated as\u00a0 “modestly” is aidos<\/i>, which means having a sense of shame, modesty, and reverence. This is a person who can blush when faced with things that are irreverent or immodest. The Greek word for “discretely” is sophrosuna<\/i>. This person is of sound mind, has self-control and good judgment, and is moderate in all she does.<\/p>\n
While Paul is addressing women, the concepts should also apply to men. A Christian is to be humble, so dressing to show off their wealth or to gain the admiration of others would be wrong. Nor should a person should not dress to arouse sexual desire in other people.
