My sister told me to grow up. She said, “I feel like I’m talking to a younger me,” and told me that I’d understand what she spoke of when I was older.<\/p>\n

What did she speak of? She denied Christ and said, “I am sure Christ made mistakes.” When I told her the reason I follow him was that he was the perfect person, she said that I have no proof to say that Christianity is true. I tried to bring up the prophecies, but she denied those as well. She tried to pin what happened in the Garden of Eden as being God’s fault. She told me that I was in a cult and to “Run back to get brainwashed.” The ultimate conclusion of the discussion was: We don’t know if your religion is true or not.<\/p>\n

She does not desire to be a Christian, making me anxious about whether what she says is true. I do not believe everything she says, but I need some comfort. I blotted out most of the memories because I did not want to stress over them, but they still make me feel nervous when I think of them.<\/p>\n

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction<\/em>” (Proverbs 1:7).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Your sister would fall into the category of a scoffer. A scoffer is someone who rejects anything that he doesn’t already accept. Instead of examining ideas, the scoffer ridicules others for holding different ideas. “How long, O naive ones, will you love being simple-minded? And scoffers delight themselves in scoffing and fools hate knowledge?<\/em>” (Proverbs 1:22). Notice that your sister refused to examine whether prophecy in the Bible points to the truth of the Bible. She already decided the Bible could not be true, so she instantly dismissed the evidence. She thinks she on a path of searching for wisdom, but she doesn’t realize that she won’t find it because she has already decided what wisdom looks like. “A scoffer seeks wisdom and finds none, But knowledge is easy to one who has understanding<\/em>” (Proverbs 14:6).<\/p>\n

God tells us it isn’t worth arguing with a scoffer. “He who corrects a scoffer gets dishonor for himself, and he who reproves a wicked man gets insults for himself<\/em>” (Proverbs 9:7). There is no argument that will convince your sister she is wrong because she is already convinced that she is right.<\/p>\n

Instead of letting your sister’s disbelief shake your faith, use this time to examine the evidence of Christianity and learn.<\/p>\n
