Revelation employs the imagery of the red dragon (Satan) who underlies the opposition to God and His people. The dragon stands behind the two beasts, representing worldly powers and false prophets who deceive people into worshiping the beast and dragon. Christians are called upon to come out and be separate, to fight the spiritual battle by means of the blood of the lamb, the word of the testimony, and commitment even to death. Christians are not insurrectionists. They will not resort to violence, even if that means suffering under the hands of oppressive powers. Our weapons are rooted in Christ’s blood, the Spirit’s sword (the word), and staunch dedication to the King of kings and Lord of lords.<\/p>\n
Upon reading Revelation, we are forced to answer the most basic of questions: in whom or what does our ultimate allegiance reside? If not the Lord, we are already lost. If the Lord, we are victorious no matter what may appear to be happening on the earth. We are called to a heavenly perspective that sees this battle for what it is (spiritual) and to see the true King whose robe is dipped in His own blood as He conquers the nations, turning their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks.
