Text: Acts 11:1-18<\/p>\n
<\/p>\nI. When Peter returned to Jerusalem after the conversion of the Gentile, Cornelius, he met\n with opposition.\n
A. He was accused of associating with unholy people – Acts 11:2-3<\/p>\n B. Peter recounted the events that led him to Cornelius’ house and the miracle that\n was done there.\n
C. But the key point is found in Acts 11:17<\/p>\n
D. If this is what God wants, how could any man object?<\/p>\n
E. Consider then, who is God that He can tell man what he must do.<\/p>\n
II. Ownership<\/p>\n
A. God is the Creator<\/p>\n
1. God created the universe – Genesis 1:1<\/p>\n
2. It came into being by His power – Psalm 33:6-9<\/p>\n
3. Hence, all that is in the world belongs to God – Psalm 24:1-2<\/p>\n
4. In particular God made the spirit of man – Genesis 1:26<\/p>\n
5. And so, God claims all souls as His – Ezekiel 18:4<\/p>\n
6. As Elihu told Job – Job 33:6<\/p>\n
B. Man is the creature<\/p>\n 1. As the thing made, we cannot tell the Maker what He may do – Romans\n 9:20-21\n
2. All of us are the work of God’s hands – Isaiah 64:8<\/p>\n
3. God can do with the clay as he wills – Jeremiah 18:3-6<\/p>\n
4. We have no right to argue with God – Isaiah 45:9<\/p>\n
III. Righteousness<\/p>\n
A. God is holy<\/p>\n
1. There is no sin in God – I John 1:5<\/p>\n
2. He cannot even be tempted by sin – James 1:13<\/p>\n
3. God is holy – I Peter 1:15-16<\/p>\n
4. God teaches us His way – Isaiah 2:3<\/p>\n
B. Man is unclean<\/p>\n
1. We all sin – Romans 3:23<\/p>\n
2. If we claim to be without sin, we have sinned – I John 1:8, 10<\/p>\n
3. How can flawed beings chose their way? – Jeremiah 10:23<\/p>\n
4. Ezekiel 18:25<\/p>\n
5. The wicked have no right to speak of God’s law – Psalm 50:16-17<\/p>\n
IV. Power<\/p>\n
A. God is almighty<\/p>\n
1. God declared Himself to Abram – Genesis 17:1<\/p>\n
2. Great are God’s works – Revelation 15:3<\/p>\n
3. Great are the works of God – Psalm 111:2<\/p>\n
4. Man does well to understand this – Psalm 139:14<\/p>\n
B. Man is weak<\/p>\n
1. The weakness of God is greater than the might of men – I Corinthians 1:25<\/p>\n
2. We cannot contend with God who is mightier – Job 33:12-13<\/p>\n
3. Can we find fault with the Almighty? – Job 40:2<\/p>\n
4. Can we override God’s judgments? – Job 40:8-9<\/p>\n
V. Knowledge<\/p>\n
A. God knows all things – 1 John 3:20<\/p>\n
1. Nothing is hidden from His sight – Hebrews 4:13<\/p>\n
B. Man knows little<\/p>\n
1. Man cannot correct God – Job 36:23<\/p>\n
2. We speak without knowledge – Job 38:2<\/p>\n
3. How can we say that God doesn’t understand? – Isaiah 29:15-16<\/p>\n
a. It is an error to think that God has limitations like our own.<\/p>\n
VI. Judgment<\/p>\n
A. It is God who will judge man – II Corinthians 5:10<\/p>\n
B. Jesus saves the obedient – Hebrews 5:9<\/p>\n
C. The only way to heaven is by doing the will of God – Matthew 7:21<\/p>\n
