\nThe words the preacher does;
\nThere’s different things for different days
\nBut mostly it’s for us.\nWhen Daddy prays, the house is still,
\nHis voice is slow and deep.
\nWe shut our eyes, the clock ticks loud.
\nSo quiet we must keep.\nHe prays that we may be good boys,
\nAnd later on good men.
\nAnd then we squirm, and think we won’t
\nHave any quarrels again.\nYou’d never think, to look at Dad,
\nHe once had tempers too.
\nI guess if Daddy needs to pray.
\nWe youngsters surely do.\nSometimes the prayer gets very long
\nAnd hard to understand
\nAnd then I wiggle up quite close
\nAnd let him hold my hand.\nI can’t remember all of it
\nI’m little yet, you see.
\nBut one thing I cannot forget
