{"id":59928,"date":"2004-03-14T20:54:00","date_gmt":"2004-03-15T02:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.lavistachurchofchrist.org\/cms\/?p=59928"},"modified":"2023-03-14T20:56:30","modified_gmt":"2023-03-15T01:56:30","slug":"tell-them-of-my-way","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lavistachurchofchrist.org\/cms\/tell-them-of-my-way\/","title":{"rendered":"Tell Them of My Way"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\tby Darrell Hymel\nI had a dream the other night,<br \/>\nThe judgment day was here.<br \/>\nIt came in the twinkling of an eye,<br \/>\nI had no time for fear.\nI found myself in one great line,<br \/>\nWith men from every land.<br \/>\nMen from every race and age<br \/>\nStood like grains of sand.\nChrist held the book within his hands<br \/>\nAnd God was on the throne.<br \/>\nHe set about to judge each man,<br \/>\nBy the things which each had sown.\nThen Christ took the book of life<br \/>\nAnd read the names therein;<br \/>\nThere were many that once were there,<br \/>\nBut were blotted out by sin.\nAnd I wondered if I&#8217;d find mine still,<br \/>\nFor it had once been there.<br \/>\nWould my name be covered with stain,<br \/>\nOr would my name be bare?\nI stood in fear before the throne<br \/>\nAnd thought back on all my life;<br \/>\nHow I fought to keep God&#8217;s word<br \/>\nAnd fled from sin and strife.\nI never failed to read God&#8217;s word.<br \/>\nMy love, it never died.<br \/>\nI taught my children right from wrong,<br \/>\nI told them not to lie.\nI never failed to worship God<br \/>\nOn Sunday and Wednesday night.<br \/>\nI often traveled many miles<br \/>\nTo hear a word of light.\nI gave my goods to feed the poor<br \/>\nAnd never ceased to pray.<br \/>\nI&#8217;d always kept my tongue in check<br \/>\nUntil this very day.\nSo surely the Lord will know me<br \/>\nAnd tell me to walk on in;<br \/>\nBut Lord, please have mercy<br \/>\nOn all these lost in sin.\nAnd as I thought, the crowd moved up,<br \/>\nAnd I was fifth in line,<br \/>\nThe men that stood before me<br \/>\nWere ready to pay their fine.\nThe first man stepped to meet the Lord,<br \/>\nAnd fell upon the floor,<br \/>\nThen I saw just who it was,<br \/>\nIt was the man next door.\nJesus took the book of life<br \/>\nBut could not find his name.<br \/>\nMy neighbor said, &#8220;I have not heard.&#8221;<br \/>\nI knew, I was the blame.\nNext in line was Sister Anne,<br \/>\nWho once in Christ had been.<br \/>\nBecause I failed to admonish her,<br \/>\nShe continued in her sin.\nHer name had once been written<br \/>\nIn the pages of that book,<br \/>\nBut I never even took the time<br \/>\nTo see why she forsook.\nThen a black man came before the throne<br \/>\nHe had worked with me for years,<br \/>\nHe knew his name would not be there<br \/>\nAnd his eyes were filled with tears.\nThis man had never learned the truth<br \/>\nAnd neither had his kin,<br \/>\nFor I would not talk with them<br \/>\nFor the color of their skin.\nAnd then the man before me<br \/>\nI suddenly recognized,<br \/>\nAnd as he stepped before the throne<br \/>\nHe looked into my eyes.\nHe was my roommate from college days,<br \/>\nHe had been my greatest friend,<br \/>\nWe&#8217;d always helped each other out,<br \/>\nDown through thick and thin.\nBut I never told him of the Lord,<br \/>\nIt seemed so trivial then,<br \/>\nFor we were young and had plenty of time<br \/>\nTo talk of God and sin.\nAnd finally upon the judgment day,<br \/>\nI meet with him once more,<br \/>\nBut now there&#8217;s nothing I can say<br \/>\nTo open him the door.\nAnd now I stood before the Lord,<br \/>\nMy soul was filled with fright.<br \/>\n&#8220;Why hadn&#8217;t I taken the time<br \/>\nTo teach them what was right.&#8221;\nAgain the Lord, He took the book<br \/>\nAnd looked there for my name,<br \/>\nWhere once had been a pure white page<br \/>\nMy brothers&#8217; blood now stained.\nAnd then the Lord, He said to me,<br \/>\n&#8220;I&#8217;ve found here one dark blot.<br \/>\nYou hid My name from all these men.<br \/>\nDepart, I know you not.&#8221;\n&#8220;You met them every day in life<br \/>\nAnd knew they were astray,<br \/>\nBut you never even cared enough<br \/>\nTo tell them of My way.&#8221;\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Darrell Hymel I had a dream the other night, The judgment day was here.
