\nor Lord God when I pray.
\nThe Father, Son, and Holy Ghost
\nare not by-words to say!\nIt bothers me to hear someone
\nwho takes God’s Name in vain.
\nIf I ever slip and do that,
\nI know I’ll be ashamed.\nSome things are often cut,
\nlike saying “Golly Gee!” –
\nIt’s short for “God” and “Jesus”.
\nHow can you speak so free!!!\nOr “Jesus Christ!” you just blurt out.
\nI think, “What did you say???”
\nWhy not use your own name,
\nrather than He who made the day?\nOr “Jesus, Mary, Joseph!”
\nor sometimes “Holy Cow!”
\nOr sometimes “Lordy, Lordy!” –
\nThe One to whom we bow!\nI hear so often “Oh my God!”
\nor shorter: “O M G” –
\nA euphemism some things are,
\nslang for Deity!\nSo you profane the Almighty,
\nHe who made us all!
\nWhat if such words are on your lips
\njust as Death comes to call?\nThe Word says to “judge rightly”;
\nit’s not me putting blame.
\nIt’s not just wrong – it’s sinful,
