{"id":56543,"date":"2010-12-02T21:09:00","date_gmt":"2010-12-03T03:09:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.lavistachurchofchrist.org\/cms\/?p=56543"},"modified":"2022-12-02T21:29:42","modified_gmt":"2022-12-03T03:29:42","slug":"gods-name","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lavistachurchofchrist.org\/cms\/gods-name\/","title":{"rendered":"God\u2019s Name"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>by Netagene Kirkpatrick<\/p>\nI call the name of Jesus,<br>\nor Lord God when I pray.<br>\nThe Father, Son, and Holy Ghost<br>\nare not by-words to say!\nIt bothers me to hear someone<br>\nwho takes God&#8217;s Name in vain.<br>\nIf I ever slip and do that,<br>\nI know I&#8217;ll be ashamed.\nSome things are often cut,<br>\nlike saying &#8220;Golly Gee!&#8221; &#8211;<br>\nIt&#8217;s short for &#8220;God&#8221; and &#8220;Jesus&#8221;.<br>\nHow can you speak so free!!!\nOr &#8220;Jesus Christ!&#8221; you just blurt out.<br>\nI think, &#8220;What did you say???&#8221;<br>\nWhy not use your own name,<br>\nrather than He who made the day?\nOr &#8220;Jesus, Mary, Joseph!&#8221;<br>\nor sometimes &#8220;Holy Cow!&#8221;<br>\nOr sometimes &#8220;Lordy, Lordy!&#8221; &#8211;<br>\nThe One to whom we bow!\nI hear so often &#8220;Oh my God!&#8221;<br>\nor shorter: &#8220;O M G&#8221; &#8211;<br>\nA euphemism some things are,<br>\nslang for Deity!\nSo you profane the Almighty,<br>\nHe who made us all!<br>\nWhat if such words are on your lips<br>\njust as Death comes to call?\nThe Word says to &#8220;judge rightly&#8221;;<br>\nit&#8217;s not me putting blame.<br>\nIt&#8217;s not just wrong &#8211; it&#8217;s sinful,<br>\nto use God&#8217;s Name in vain.\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Netagene Kirkpatrick I call the name of Jesus, or Lord God when I pray.
