Text: Psalm 56<\/p>\n I. Read \n the song “O for a Faith That Will Not Shrink” by W. H. Bathhurst \n (#462)\n II. A \n faith without fear\n A. Most \n of our fears of our own imagination – Psalm 53:5\n 1. When \n our dreads are elusive, we make things up, and what we imagine is almost \n always worse than reality\n 2. If \n we just face our fears, we will see that they are not nearly as large \n as we imagined them to be.\n B. We \n fear the wrong thing – Proverbs 29:25\n 1. Do \n not fear the physical – Matthew 10:28\n 2. What \n can mere man do? – Psalm 56:4\n 3. The \n apostles before the Sanhedrin court – Acts 4:5-13\n C. We \n fear because our conscience bothers us – Proverbs 28:1\n 1. But \n trusting in God’s salvation removes fear – Isaiah 12:2\n 2. Hereby \n we know that we are saved – I John 2:3-6; 5:1-5, 18-20\n D. God \n has not given us a spirit of fear – II Timothy 1:7\n III. A \n faith without complaint\n A. Life \n is not fair\n 1. Because \n to most fairness means everything goes my way\n 2. The \n Hebrews lost their faith and complained – Hebrews 3:7-12\n 3. They \n turned on their hope of aid – I Corinthians 10:9-10\n B. We \n are promised difficulties – Hebrews 12:4-13\n

\n 2. Matthew \n 5:10-12 – Rejoice in persecution \n C. Accept \n adversity along with the good – Job 2:10\n 1. Because \n always God does what is best for us.\n IV. A \n faith that shines\n A. It \n is when the hour is darkest, when all looks hopeless, that a man’s \n faith then shines as a beacon – Matthew 5:14-16\n 1. Walk \n as children of light – Ephesians 5:8\n 2. Prove \n to be children of light – Philippians 2:15-16\n B. It \n might not be acknowledged, but it is seen – I Peter 2:12\n 1. Doing \n what is right and good – Isaiah 58:7-8\n C. It \n draws people to hope – Isaiah 60:1-3\n V. A \n faith that lasts\n A. Hated \n by all, but must endure to the end – Matthew 10:22\n B. Hold \n fast – Hebrews 3:6\n C.
