{"id":52564,"date":"2018-02-06T20:29:00","date_gmt":"2018-02-07T02:29:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.lavistachurchofchrist.org\/cms\/?p=52564"},"modified":"2022-08-26T20:30:56","modified_gmt":"2022-08-27T01:30:56","slug":"can-i-remove-sin-by-myself","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lavistachurchofchrist.org\/cms\/can-i-remove-sin-by-myself\/","title":{"rendered":"Can I remove sin by myself?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\t<h2>Question:<\/h2>\n<p>Hi,<\/p>\n<p>I want to know if I can remove the sin by myself or do I have to trust Jesus in order for this to work?<\/p>\n\t<h2>Answer:<\/h2>\n<p>When you sin, you put yourself into debt and into slavery. &#8220;<em>Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one&#8217;s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?<\/em>&#8221; (Romans 6:16).<\/p>\n<p>You cannot get out of that slavery until the debt is paid off, but the price is too high for you to pay. &#8220;<em>For the wages of sin is death<\/em>&#8221; (Romans 6:23). In one parable, Jesus compared it to a man who owed 10,000 talents (Matthew 18:24-35). A talent is a unit of weight equally about 75 pounds. 10,000 talents of gold would take about 15,000 years to earn at the normal wage of a man in those days. That is how badly our sins put us in debt &#8212; impossible to pay off.<\/p>\n<p>Since all men sin (Romans 3:23), no one else can pay that debt for you either because they too are stuck in the slavery of sin.<\/p>\n<p>What makes Jesus special is that he was without sin. He could pay the debt for you; in fact, with his death, he paid the debt for the whole world. This is the only way out of sin. &#8220;<em>Jesus said to him, &#8220;I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me<\/em>&#8221; (John 14:6).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;<em>O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?
