May God continue to bless souls through your vast wealth of knowledge.

Sir, last year I took marijuana for the first time (of my own consent and in food). That night happened to be the worse I’ve ever had. I experienced what I’d term “madness,” and hours after, I regained myself totally. About a week after, I noticed I was a bit tipsy, as though I had taken drugs which I didn’t. About a month after taking the substance, I had a similar but longer experience which seemed like the one I had the night I took marijuana. It was a combination of depersonalization and derealization. The more I feared losing my mind, the more I was actually losing it. Since then, I’ve had this headache that comes with the feeling that I am losing my sanity. This feeling comes when the headache peaks. The headache makes me hate light and sound, as both increase the intensity of the headache.

I am a university student in my third year. I discovered to my dismay that my cousin, with whom I live while in school usually adds marijuana to the foods we’ve been eating (unknown to me). I also discovered that my father and his siblings had chronic headaches at one time in their lives as young adults.

Please is there any way I can be helped?

Answer:

Given your family history, it sounds like you all suffer from migraines. It also appears that marijuana causes your type of migraines to get worse or more frequent.

First off, marijuana has a known effect of lowering a person’s intelligence. This is not a drug a college student should be using. See: Marijuana Permanently Lowers IQ. Nor should this or other drugs be used by Christians of whom sobriety is commanded. “For you are all sons of light and sons of day. We are not of night nor of darkness; so then let us not sleep as others do, but let us be alert and sober. For those who sleep do their sleeping at night, and those who get drunk get drunk at night. But since we are of the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope of salvation. For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ” (I Thessalonians 5:5-9).

While the initial euphoria of marijuana lasts a few hours, the drug itself builds up in the fat cells of your body. Thus, it continues to impact the user for as long as six to nine months.

Therefore, your first order of business is to stop living with your cousin, because he cannot be trusted, and start doing all your own food preparations. You should see a noticeable improvement after about a month of not using marijuana, and then a gradual improvement until it clears your system.

Talk to your doctor about your migraines and see what he suggests you take. Mention to him that you found out the hard way that marijuana brings on migraines in you. That might give the doctor a clue as to which kind of migraine you have.

Response:

Thank you, sir, you’ve been more than a blessing to me. I pray God grants you more than you can ever think of or ask in Jesus’ name.

Question: Mr. Jeffrey, sir, Your response to me years back made a terrific impact on my life, and I don’t know what I would have done without you coming into the situation and easing my anxiety.
