Job, in his declaration of innocence in the face of the accusations of his friends, went too far in pressing his case.

“For He bruises me with a tempest and multiplies my wounds without cause” (Job 9:17).

“If the scourge kills suddenly, He mocks the despair of the innocent” (Job 9:23).

“According to Your knowledge I am indeed not guilty, yet there is no deliverance from Your hand” (Job 10:7).

“Although there is no violence in my hands, and my prayer is pure” (Job 16:17).

“The upright will be appalled at this, and the innocent will stir up himself against the godless” (Job 17:8).

“But He knows the way I take; When He has tried me, I shall come forth as gold. My foot has held fast to His path; I have kept His way and not turned aside.
