Behold, He invents pretexts against me; He counts me as His enemy. He puts my feet in the stocks; He watches all my paths.’ Behold, let me tell you, you are not right in this, for God is greater than man. Why do you complain against Him that He does not give an account of all His doings?<\/em>” (Job 33:8-13).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Job doesn’t use the exact words, but they are what is implied by what Job did say. Job, in his declaration of innocence in the face of the accusations of his friends, went too far in pressing his case.<\/p>\n
“For He bruises me with a tempest and multiplies my wounds\u00a0without cause<\/strong><\/em>” (Job 9:17).<\/p>\n
“If the scourge kills suddenly, He mocks the despair of\u00a0the innocent<\/strong><\/em>” (Job 9:23).<\/p>\n
“According to Your knowledge\u00a0I am indeed not guilty<\/strong>, yet there is no deliverance from Your hand<\/em>” (Job 10:7).<\/p>\n
“Although there is no violence in my hands, and\u00a0my prayer is pure<\/strong><\/em>” (Job 16:17).<\/p>\n
“The upright will be appalled at this, and\u00a0the innocent<\/strong>\u00a0will stir up himself against the godless<\/em>” (Job 17:8).<\/p>\n
“But He knows the way I take; When He has tried me, I shall come forth as gold.\u00a0My foot has held fast to His path; I have kept His way and not turned aside. I have not departed from the command of His lips<\/strong>; I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my necessary food<\/em>” (Job 23:10-12).<\/p>\n
“I hold fast my righteousness<\/strong>\u00a0and will not let it go.\u00a0My heart does not reproach any of my days<\/strong><\/em>” (Job 27:6).<\/p>\n

While probably not Job’s intention, Elihu is right in saying that Job said he was pure (Job 16:17), without transgression (Job 23:10-12), innocent (Job 9:17,23; 17:8), and that there was no guilt in him (Job 10:7; 27:6).<\/p>\n
