Good afternoon to the Church Of Christ in LaVista,<\/p>\n

I am a member of the Church of Christ. I thank God for your website and all of its content.<\/p>\n

Currently, I am in the military serving in the U.S Navy, I have a month before I have to make a decision as to whether or not I reenlist for more years of service. I am debating as to whether or not this is a good decision. One of the things I am keeping in consideration is the possibility of being stationed in an isolated location where there is no present church such as on an aircraft carrier. It’s not impossible but I would consider it likely. I’m carefully weighing this decision and there are other factors that I am also mindful of but at present, my concern is for service to the Lord. I would love your thoughts on this matter.<\/p>\n

While I can give you some of my thoughts, ultimately the decision must be yours.<\/p>\n

I’ve known people who were converted while on ships. I’m sure the limited options for what to do while off-duty give people time to dig into the Bible. If you decide to go, consider how you will be able to teach others and also consider how you are going to be able to grow as a Christian as well. When you are in port, make it a priority to attend the local congregations.<\/p>\n

Being a part of a congregation is an essential element of Christianity. It is hard to remain faithful on your own. You need a community to help you. “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near<\/em>” (Hebrews 10;23-25). Sadly, I hear of more Christians losing their faith while in the military and I suspect the lack of connection to fellow Christians is a big factor.<\/p>\n

Another factor that comes into consideration with the Navy is that its members are often separated from their families for long periods. If you are married and have children, you need to think about how you are going to fulfill your obligations to your family.
